Automations can run in response to Slack activity. When you configure a Slack trigger, any new top-level message in the channels you select starts the automation. Thread replies do not start runs. Use a Slack trigger when conversations should drive work automatically. For example, turn questions posted in a support channel into documentation updates, or act on feedback shared in a product channel without copying messages by hand.

Before you begin

  • Connect Slack to your workspace so the Mintlify bot is installed.
  • Add the Mintlify bot to each channel you want the automation to listen to. Mention the bot in the channel to invite it.

Configure the trigger

Open the automation settings

Go to Automations, then create a new automation or edit an existing one.

Select the Slack trigger

Choose the integration trigger type, then select Slack from the integration picker. Slack appears at the top of the list.

Select channels

Use the channel picker to choose one or more channels. Search by name to filter the list, then check each channel the automation should listen to.Any new top-level message in the selected channels starts the automation.

Verify bot access

Mintlify checks that the bot is a member of each selected channel. You cannot save the trigger until every check passes.
  • If the bot is missing from a channel, add the bot to that channel, then deselect and reselect the channel to recheck.
  • If a check fails for another reason, deselect and reselect the channel to retry.

Save the automation

Save your changes. The automation now runs whenever a new message is posted in any of the selected channels.

View runs triggered by Slack

Each run started by a Slack message links back to its source:
  • The runs list shows Triggered by message in #channel with a link to the message in Slack.
  • The run detail view shows a Trigger row that links to the same message.
Failed runs that were triggered by a Slack message cannot be re-run from the dashboard. Post a new message in the channel to start a fresh run.
